Goodrich achieves Year 3 Certification with Planet Mark

At Goodrich, we realise that we need to be strategic about our social responsibility and raise awareness of our individual and collective impact on the planet, which is why we are thrilled to have received our Year 3 Certification from Planet Mark this month.

Over the past 3 years, we have made it our aim to reduce our impact as a business on the environment and give back to our local communities.  Our Year 3 report showed some incredibly promising scores, but the two that stood out the most were a 16.9% reduction in carbon overall as a business and a 51.7% reduction in carbon per employee.  Emissions associated with waste had decreased by 66%, with the amount of waste being sent to landfill decreasing by an impressive 79%.  We also managed to reduce our business travel emissions by 6% with our continued efforts to move towards electric and hybrid vehicles, and by actively encouraging the team to carpool to site visits, we saved 9750 miles.

We are passionate about supporting local charities and communities, and this was reflected in our Social Value which totalled nearly £89,000, equating to £2,554 per employee. Our team continue to take part in charitable events and raise money for fantastic local causes, such as the Cynthia Spencer Hospice.  Some brave members of the team recently accomplished the abseiling challenge down the 418ft Northampton Lift Tower, whilst others have opted to take on the challenge of the popular Cycle4Cynthia event which takes place annually in September.

Although we understand that donations are vital for charities and communities, we also appreciate that donating our time is just as valuable, which is why we clocked up 244 hours of volunteering across the year.  The recent CSR events saw Red Pod undertaking a beach clean in Newquay, Blue Pod assisting the local council with litter picking around Birmingham, Yellow Pod helping to relocate a new workshop for the Hope Centre in Northampton, and Green Pod painting a local community centre.

As a company, we will continue to work hard to reduce our footprint, because we know it’s the right thing to do.  Our aim for the next year is to reduce our footprint by a further 5% and strive to take progressive, proactive steps forward to drive a positive change for both our planet and society to help build a brighter future for all.
