DHL, East Midlands Airport

A new 232,506 sq ft extension to the existing sortation hub

Project Overview

A new sortation hub and 232,506 sq ft parcel hub with two storey integral offices

Offices include a new call centre space for the UK International Gateway to other DHL hubs. The project was an extension to integrate the existing aviation hub and is a turnkey fit out.  The project was awarded a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and EPC ‘A’ rating.

The Challenge

The extension works were carried out under a live operation over a 65 week period so the everyday operation of the existing facility continued without disruption, which was business critical for DHL Aviation.  Security on the site was paramount as the works were being carried out adjacent to a live airport apron. Every person assigned to work on the project that would be air side had to be DBS checked as a clear criminal record was required.

It was also very important to get the installation of the flexible plant deck correct to house the ever evolving state of the art MHE Design.
